It's actually a really bad joke, but it makes him smile. In retrospect, going to the Primatech Halloween party as the Invisible Man is probably a bad idea; something akin to waving a red flag at a bull, although there's nothing they can do to him while spouses and family are present.

Sandra helps him with the wrapping, making sure the fabric that goes over his eyes is sheer enough to see through while hiding his face from others, and he wears his own glasses over the whole thing even though he knows everyone will immediately know who it is.

Of course, Thompson makes a comment -- he'd be surprised if his boss didn't -- but having his face wrapped in fabric is a definite advantage when he glares daggers at the man while appearing to smile.
